somedays
(like this one),
i wonder
if i had begun real musical training at an earlier age,
if i could have just gotten away with doing that
(music, I mean.)
in some capacity
for a living.
and so i think
that if my future children ever have the slightest hint of talent
i will make them
learn to play
the piano
and any other instrument they choose.
(and oh, do i ever hope that they will choose the cello, french horn, and bassoon.)
but most importantly
i will do my best to make sure
that these future children
do not create
self-imposed restrictions for themselves
(like i have created
many times over)
based on ideas
that they can not
or do not deserve to
learn anything they may want to learn.
it is 24 years in
and i am just now beginning to recognize
the many fences i have built.
